Hillsborough County, FL: In a sweeping undercover crackdown, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 89 individuals during a large-scale child sex trafficking and online exploitation operation aimed at identifying and apprehending suspected predators.

The multi-day operation, conducted across Hillsborough County, Florida, involved undercover detectives posing as minors online and coordinating surveillance efforts that stretched from digital chat rooms to hotel parking lots.

Authorities said the suspects were targeting individuals they believed to be children for illicit sexual encounters, with several arrests taking place after suspects traveled to pre-arranged meeting locations.

Sheriff Chad Chronister described the operation as part of an ongoing effort to disrupt networks that prey on vulnerable youth. Standing before reporters during a press briefing, Chronister delivered a stern warning to those who attempt to exploit children online.

“If you are using a hotel room, a chat app, or a fake profile to pursue a child, we are there,” Chronister said. “Our detectives will follow the digital trail all the way to your door.”

According to investigators, the suspects face a range of charges that may include traveling to meet a minor for unlawful sexual conduct, use of communication devices to solicit a child, and related exploitation offenses.

Authorities confirmed that digital forensics teams played a central role in identifying suspects, tracing IP addresses, and preserving electronic evidence for prosecution.

Officials emphasized that many of the arrested individuals initiated contact believing they were communicating with minors. Detectives engaged in conversations designed to confirm intent before coordinating arrests.

Several suspects were apprehended at hotels and other public meeting spots, where undercover officers were waiting.

Law enforcement officials noted that operations of this scale require coordination between cybercrime units, patrol deputies, and legal teams to ensure evidence is collected lawfully and cases withstand judicial scrutiny.

Prosecutors are now reviewing the cases, and bond hearings are expected to follow in the coming days.

Sheriff Chronister underscored the broader mission behind the crackdown, stating that the operation was not only about making arrests but also about sending a clear message.

“This is about protecting our children and holding predators accountable,” he said. “If you attempt to exploit a child in Hillsborough County, you will be caught.”

Authorities also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant about their children’s online activity and to report suspicious behavior immediately. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that investigations remain ongoing and that additional arrests could follow as digital evidence continues to be analyzed.

The operation marks one of the largest coordinated efforts in the county this year targeting online child exploitation, reflecting a growing law enforcement focus on tracking digital footprints and dismantling predator networks before harm occurs.
